Nattokinase: Why I Take This Anti-Aging Supplement

Nattokinase is a unique enzyme found to help support heart health, reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, dissolve blood clots, and extend lifespan. It’s gaining a lot of popularity as people are becoming more aware of the importance of heart health.

In 1987, Hiroyuki Sumi, a Japanese researcher, extracted an enzyme from Natto and named it Nattokinase (NK). Natto is a traditional fermented soybean food high in B vitamins, protein, and fiber.

It has been used in Japan for centuries as a food and supplement. It’s one of the few supplements containing protein and peptides and is an excellent option for anti-inflammatory issues.

As you already know, inflammation is at the root of many chronic diseases and conditions. Chronic inflammation can even cause heart disease, dementia, and cancer. But if you’re looking for a natural supplement that can help reduce inflammation, you should consider adding NK to your daily health regimen.

This article will explain what Nattokinase is and how it can benefit your lifespan and healthspan.

Why I Take Nattokinase

Since I am nearing 60, I realize that I must protect my arteries, blood vessels, and heart. Our blood vessels naturally constrict and stiffen as we age, and our arteries lose their elasticity. If left unattended, this can result in numerous health issues such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. With this in mind, I take NK for the following reasons listed below.

It Is Excellent For The Heart

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death worldwide. Many studies on humans show that NK reduces cardiovascular disease mortality due to its,

  • fibrinolytic activity (dissolves blood clots)
  • antihypertensive effect (lowers high blood pressure)
  • anti-atherosclerotic effect (protects the arteries)
  • lipid-lowering effect (lowers high cholesterol)
  • antiplatelet effect (reduces the chance of a heart attack)
  • neuroprotective effect (protects brain cells)

Scientists have stated that no single drug compares to the multiple ways NK protects you from cardiovascular disease.

Nattokinase Improves Blood Circulation

The better your blood flow is, the more nutrients and oxygen are delivered to your muscles, brain, heart, skin, etc., which will keep you healthier.

The supply of oxygen to all tissues is directly dependent on healthy blood flow. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all the cells in your body and picks up carbon dioxide and waste products.

NK has been shown to improve blood flow (Source, Section 2) and without any side effects associated with vasodilating drugs (medications that open blood vessels)

2021 study on 153 patients with vascular diseases shows Nattokinase’s potency for preventing and treating vascular (circulatory) conditions.

Another 2018 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study also confirmed that nattokinase enhanced blood flow.

It Strengthens Your Immune System

Nattokinase supports immune system function by boosting friendly and healthy bacterial growth in your gut, which will protect you from many diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, obesity, and even cancer.

Nattokinase Can Extend Lifespan

Scientists believe that many Japanese people that have such a long lifespan is due, in part, to their consumption of Natto. Japan has one of the most extended lifespans of all the countries worldwide.

Of interest, people have molecules in their bodies called polyamines. As we age, the levels of this molecule decrease. Since polyamines are critical for cell survival and growth, their decreased levels affect lifespan and healthspan.

Raising polyamine levels appears to extend aging in animals and human cells. One particular polyamine named spermidine increased the lifespan of worms by 15% and in flies by 30%.

It was also tested on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), (essential for your immune system). After two days of spermidine administration, the results showed that it increased PBMC survival from 15% to 50%.

Natto is a rich source of polyamines, and there is evidence that it can increase polyamine levels in humans. Bacillus subtilis (Natto) (the scientific name for Nattokinase) is also rich in spermidine.

How Much Nattokinase I Take

I don’t eat Natto, the bean per se. However, I take the supplemental form called Nattokinase, which can be purchased on Amazon or many other retail outlets. I take one capsule of 2,000 FUs (100 mg) twice per day and have been taking it for several years now without any side effects.

My vascularity has dramatically increased. I’ve always worked out but never had the vascularity I have now – not even when I was in my 20s and am now 58. Here is a recent video to show what I mean:

Safety

Nattokinase has been shown in numerous studies that it has no toxic effects on the human body.

A clinical trial showed that it has ZERO adverse effects or toxicity. (Source, Section 1). In another study, scientists gave mice up to 480000 FU/kg, which is 1000 times more than what is recommended for humans. And again, no adverse effects resulted.

NK has been taken daily for 3 years, ranging in dosage from 2000 to 7000 FUs daily with no side effects. I have been taking 4000 FUs for about 2 years now with no problems to show.

Summary

Nattokinase is a unique supplement that can protect your blood vessels, improve vascularity and blood flow, protect your heart and arteries, boost the immune system, and above all, can extend lifespan.

You should consider adding it to your supplement regimen if you are older. Studies have proved that it is safe for humans to take. As always, speak to your medical provider before using Nattokinase.
